Why dental care costs less in Turkey

A price that looks too low deserves the suspicion it gets. Here is what actually explains the gap, line by line — including where we are not the cheapest option in Turkey.

Why is dental work cheaper in Turkey?

Mainly because the costs behind the chair are lower: salaries, rent, laboratory work and the general cost of running a clinic in Istanbul. Part of the gap is not cost at all but scope — a cheaper quote often covers fewer items. The implant and ceramic brands themselves can be identical.

If a low number made you suspicious, that is the right instinct

Closing the tab, searching the clinic name, asking why nobody else charges this — that reaction is doing its job. This page exists to answer it line by line, not to talk you out of asking it.

Ask us — and ask every clinic on your shortlist — the same three:

  1. 1. What does this price actually include?
  2. 2. How many years is the warranty, and what does it cover — and what does it not?
  3. 3. If something goes wrong after I fly home, what exactly happens next?

Every section below is our own answer to those three, written out in full rather than summarised in a sentence.

Five reasons, in order of how much they actually explain

1. The clinic costs less to run, not the implant

Rent, salaries, laboratory work and everything else it takes to keep a clinic open cost less in Istanbul than in New York, Los Angeles or Toronto. The Straumann fixture we place is the same catalogue item bought from the same manufacturer at broadly the same kind of price anywhere in the world. What changes around it is the overhead. This is the largest single part of the difference and it is also the least interesting, which is why most pages skip past it.

2. There is no billing layer between you and the price

We quote you directly. There is no insurance coding to satisfy, no network contract to price against, and no billing department whose cost has to sit somewhere in the fee. That is a genuine structural difference, and it also explains why our published price and your final price are close to each other: the only thing that moves the number is what the CT scan shows.

A treatment room at one of our clinics — the overhead this section is actually about, not an abstract cost line

3. Treatment is concentrated, not spread over a year of short appointments

A plan that would take eight appointments over ten months at home is usually organised as two trips with long chair time. Fewer appointments means less overhead per case.

The limit is biological and we will not pretend otherwise: bone healing cannot be compressed. An implant still needs months before the crown goes on. Anyone offering you a finished implant restoration in a single one-week trip is describing the temporary stage.

4. Part of the difference is not price at all — it is scope

This is where most of the confusion comes from, and it is worth being specific.

You will see Turkish implants advertised from $390. That number is real. It is also a fixture only. The aggregator running that advertisement writes it on its own page: the $390 implant is a "titanium Bilimplant Turkey" implant and it "does not include abutment" — Medical Tourism Co., read 7 August 2026. No abutment, no crown, and usually a brand your dentist at home has never placed.

Ours is 1,300 € — about $1,499 — and that is the finished tooth.

Prices are in EUR. USD figures are indicative, converted 7 August 2026. Final price is confirmed after examination and a CT scan.

The comparison was never $390 against $1,499. It is $1,499 against the $3,500–$6,500 you were quoted at home — or against paying for the same tooth twice.

We are not naming clinics or telling you that inexpensive work is dangerous; we do not have the data to make that claim and neither does anyone else selling it to you. We are telling you which line items to check. Take this table to every clinic on your shortlist, including us.

5. We are not the cheapest quote in Turkey, and that is also a decision

The same aggregator that advertises implants from $390 publishes its own Turkey range for an implant with abutment and crown: $510–$1,500 — Medical Tourism Co., read 7 August 2026. Our Astra Tech restoration at about $1,499 sits at the top of that range. Its page puts the US at $5,000 and Canada at $4,800 for the same work.

So: within the Turkish market we are expensive, and against a North American quote we are not. Both of those are true at the same time, and any page that tells you only one of them is selling you something.

What the top of the range buys, concretely:

  • Straumann or Astra Tech implants, and IPS e.max ceramics — systems many dentists in the US and Canada already work with.
  • An implant passport with the lot details, so your dentist at home can identify and service what was placed.
  • Warranty terms published in full: lifetime on the implant fixture (osseointegration failure and fracture), 5 years on prosthetics, crowns and veneers from completion of treatment — and the list of what voids that cover, in the same size type.
  • On a covered revision, treatment and accommodation paid by the clinic. The flight is yours.
  • A clinic operating under International Health Tourism authorisation from the Turkish Ministry of Health — a licence that is required, reviewed, and can be suspended. All three of our clinics appear on the Ministry's published list of authorised facilities.

What lower cost does not buy you

Being honest about the limits of the argument:

  • It does not make you a candidate. Bone volume, gum health, smoking, bruxism and your medical history decide what treatment is appropriate — price does not. There are patients we tell to treat at home.
  • It does not shorten healing. Two trips, months apart, for most implant work.
  • It does not remove risk. Implants can fail to integrate, ceramics can chip or debond, and any surgical procedure carries risk. What a warranty does is tell you who carries the cost when it happens — not that it will not happen.
  • It does not cover a revision flight. If something needs fixing after you are home, the treatment and the hotel are ours — but you are still booking and paying for a transatlantic flight to get here, every time. That is the one part of a redo that stays with you, whatever the headline price was.

The five questions worth asking any clinic

  1. 01Does the implant price include the abutment and the crown? Show me the line items.
  2. 02Which implant system and which ceramic, by brand name?
  3. 03Do I leave with the implant lot details in writing?
  4. 04What exactly is warranted, for how long, from what date — and what voids it?
  5. 05If work has to be redone, who pays for the treatment, the hotel and the flight?

Ask us the same five. Our answers are on this site, in writing, before you send anyone an enquiry — see our warranty terms and safety questions. Curious who is actually treating you? Meet our dentists.

What people ask about the price difference

Why is dental work so much cheaper in Turkey?

Mostly because the cost of running a clinic — rent, salaries, laboratory work — is lower in Istanbul, and because we quote you directly rather than through an insurance billing layer. Part of the difference is not cost at all, but scope: a cheaper quote often covers fewer items than the one you were given at home.

Are Turkish dentists using cheaper materials?

Some clinics do use less widely distributed implant brands, which is one reason prices vary so much inside Turkey. We place Straumann and Astra Tech and use IPS e.max ceramics, and you leave with the implant passport recording the lot. The way to settle this for any clinic is to ask for the brand name in writing.

Why do I see implants advertised for $390 in Turkey?

Because that price is for the implant fixture alone. The aggregator advertising it states on its own page that the $390 implant "does not include abutment" (Medical Tourism Co., read 7 August 2026). With an abutment and a crown, the same source’s Turkey range is $510–$1,500. Ours is 1,300 € ≈ $1,499 for the finished tooth.

Is cheaper dental work in Turkey lower quality?

Not necessarily, and we are not going to claim that — it depends on the clinic, the materials and the dentist, and price alone does not tell you which. What a lower number often tells you is that fewer items are included. Compare line by line before you compare totals.

Is Sevil Smile Clinic the cheapest option in Istanbul?

No. Measured against the published Turkish market range for an implant with abutment and crown ($510–$1,500, Medical Tourism Co., read 7 August 2026), we sit at the top. Measured against a US quote of $3,500–$6,500 for the same finished tooth, we do not. Both statements are true.
