The comparison, criterion by criterion

Croatia is not one clinic, one price list or one treatment standard. Neither is Turkey. This table compares what can be checked about our clinic with what Croatia's official framework establishes. Where a like-for-like market number is not available, we say so.

1. What exactly is in the price?

Our published treatment price includes:

• Local anaesthetic
• The temporary prosthesis, where the treatment plan calls for one
• Sedation, which is arranged with a partner hospital and quoted individually after your consultation — no price is stated here; ask your coordinator.

Ask the Croatian clinic whether its figure is a fixture or a finished tooth, and whether CT imaging, extraction, grafting, temporary teeth and the final restoration are separate. Compare totals only after both scopes describe the same treatment.

2. Which device and which dentist?

For us, the implant choice is Straumann or Astra Tech and it appears in the written plan. In Croatia, verify which official authorisation route the treating dentist uses, then ask for the exact implant manufacturer and model. EU regulation is meaningful; it still does not replace case-specific documentation.

3. What does a return visit cost?

Ask who pays for treatment, hotel and flights if a covered problem needs in-person work. Our answer is published in our warranty terms: the clinic covers eligible revision treatment and accommodation; the patient covers the flight. A Croatian clinic may offer different terms. Get its answer in writing rather than assuming EU membership decides the contract.

Where Croatia genuinely wins

• EU regulation is a real baseline. Croatia has been an EU member since 2013. Medical devices supplied there fall under EU MDR 2017/745, and the Croatian government's professional-services page documents qualification, licensing and temporary cross-border notification routes for dental practitioners.
• The euro removes one comparison step. Croatia has used the euro since 2023. Our prices are also stated in euros, so a patient can place two itemised quotes side by side without converting the treatment line items first.
• Toronto has a direct summer option. Air Transat lists nonstop Zagreb–Toronto flights from May to October, up to three per week. If your Croatian clinic and both implant trips fit that window, this is a practical advantage, not a footnote.
• Schengen can simplify a wider European trip. Croatia is inside the Schengen area. If you are already travelling within Schengen, continuing to Croatia normally avoids another external-border crossing. That may matter more than our Istanbul flight advantage for someone combining treatment with a longer Europe trip.

The travel reality from the US and Canada

Travel is city- and season-specific. Turkish Airlines lists direct Canadian service from Toronto and Montreal to Istanbul, and its New York page lists four direct JFK–Istanbul flights a day, checked 11 August 2026. Air Transat lists direct Toronto–Zagreb service only from May through October, up to three weekly. Croatia may still work well; the exact clinic city and treatment dates decide whether the direct route helps you.

The flight sources are the airlines themselves: New York–Istanbul, Canada–Istanbul and Toronto–Zagreb. Schedules are not promises; price both implant trips before choosing a destination.

US and Canadian passport holders are visa-exempt for Schengen short stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period under the EU visa regulation. Croatia now uses the EU Entry/Exit System, which records travel-document and biometric data for most non-EU short-stay visitors. Verify current entry steps before travel. For the latest change, check the official ETIAS site. ETIAS is not a visa; it is a planned pre-travel authorisation for visa-exempt travellers. As of 11 August 2026, it was not operating and no applications were being collected. The EU planned to start it in the last quarter of 2026 but had not announced the exact date. Implant treatment commonly involves two trips separated by healing. See how the treatment calendar works, then apply the same return-trip question to any Croatian plan. A warranty visit would add another journey in either country.

Where we think Istanbul is the stronger call

• North American access is less seasonal. The airline schedules checked for this page show direct Istanbul itineraries outside summer as well as within it. Croatia's verified Toronto–Zagreb route is a May–October service.
• The full scope is visible before you enquire. Our core implant prices, available implant systems, inclusions and separately quoted sedation are published. The final plan can still change after examination and CT; the starting scope does not have to be guessed.
• Revision responsibility is published. Our warranty states what is covered, what ends cover, and who pays for the treatment, accommodation and flight.
• Our facility authorisation can be checked. All three clinics appear on Türkiye's Ministry of Health list of authorised international health-tourism facilities. Croatia has its own licensing framework; verify the specific clinic and dentist there with the same care.

Neither is the right call if…

• You need urgent treatment or hands-on monitoring close to home.
• You cannot make the return trips your treatment plan requires, including a possible additional journey if a problem needs in-person care.
• A clinic will not identify the treating dentist, device system, complete price scope and revision terms before you pay a deposit.
• You are choosing from a headline package rather than a diagnosis. Photos can help a clinic prepare, but our final price and treatment plan are confirmed only after an examination and CT scan.
