Destination Comparison
Turkey vs Hungary for dental treatment
Is Turkey or Hungary the better choice for a US or Canadian patient?
Hungary offers EU-regulated medical devices and a public professional register. For a US or Canadian patient, Istanbul currently has simpler nonstop options from New York, Toronto and Montreal. Price alone cannot choose between them: published quotes use different brands and inclusions, so compare itemised plans rather than a countrywide average.

The comparison, criterion by criterion
A country is not a price and it is not a clinic. What actually differs between a Hungarian clinic and ours is a short list of checkable things — cost, what the cost includes, the implant brand on record, and how you get there. Here is that list, not a verdict on an entire country.
| Criterion | Sevil Smile Clinic, Istanbul | What to verify in Hungary |
|---|---|---|
| Complete single-tooth restoration | 1,300 € (Astra Tech) ≈ $1,499 or 1,500 € (Straumann) ≈ $1,730 | No comparable national average found — ask whether the abutment, crown, imaging and any grafting are included |
| All-on-4, one arch | 7,000 € ≈ $8,070 (Straumann) | No comparable national average found — ask for the implant brand, temporary and final bridge, and every exclusion |
| Implant brand named in writing before treatment | Yes — Straumann or Astra Tech, plus an implant passport | Varies by clinic — ask before you book, not after |
| Device regulation behind the implant | CE-marked implant systems; Ministry-authorised facility | Devices placed on the EU market generally follow EU MDR 2017/745 conformity rules ; verify the named implant system |
| Nonstop flight from New York | Yes — Turkish Airlines states four daily flights | Not listed in Budapest Airport's published 2026 summer schedule |
| Nonstop flight from Toronto | Yes — Turkish Airlines sells the nonstop route | 6 June–24 October 2026 (Air Canada) |
| Nonstop flight from Montreal | Yes — Turkish Airlines sells the nonstop route | Not listed in Budapest Airport's published 2026 summer schedule |
Prices are in EUR. USD figures are indicative, converted 7 August 2026. Final price is confirmed after examination and a CT scan.
Hungary pricing: no primary-source national series with consistent brands and inclusions was found in our check on 11 August 2026, so no market average is shown. Flight data: Budapest Airport's official 2026 summer schedule and Toronto service dates, plus Turkish Airlines' own route pages for New York, Toronto and Montreal routes to Istanbul, checked 11 August 2026. Schedules and fares change — verify before you book.
A headline marked "implant" may mean the fixture alone or the finished, crowned tooth — the same scope problem we explain in our USA comparison. Ask any clinic, in Hungary or here, whether the quoted number covers the finished tooth or only the fixture.
Three Questions
Ask us these three — and ask them of every Hungarian clinic on your shortlist
"Hungary" is not one clinic with one price list. Published offers do not consistently name the same implant system, prosthesis or exclusions. These are the three questions that tell you what a specific quote is worth, wherever it comes from.
1. What is in the price — and what is not?
Our prices include:
- Local anaesthetic
- The temporary prosthesis, where the treatment plan calls for one
- Sedation, which is arranged with a partner hospital and quoted individually after your consultation — we do not have a price for it on this page; ask your coordinator.
A published "dental implant" price may mean the fixture alone or the finished, crowned tooth — the same scope gap we flag on our own USA comparison. Ask any Hungarian clinic that exact question before you compare their number to ours.
2. How many years is the warranty, and what exactly does it cover?
Ours: lifetime on the implant fixture, five years on crowns and prosthetics, with the exclusions published on the same page as the promise — see our warranty terms. Ask every Hungarian clinic for the same, in writing, not a verbal "yes, we guarantee our work."
3. If something needs fixing once you are home, what actually happens?
At one of our three clinics, your coordinator arranges the revision and we pay for the treatment and the accommodation; you pay the flight. Ask a Hungarian clinic the same question and get the answer in writing — a marketplace listing does not carry a warranty, the individual clinic behind it does.
If a clinic cannot answer all three in writing before you pay anything, that is worth knowing before you book a flight, not after.
Where Hungary genuinely wins
We are not going to pretend Hungary has no case. It has a real one, on specific points:
- A public professional-registration route. Hungary's National Directorate General for Hospitals says its Basic Register records recognised healthcare qualifications and links to a public database. That gives patients a concrete place to check a treating dentist's registration number rather than relying only on a clinic biography.
- EU device regulation is real and clinic-independent. Medical devices placed on the EU market generally fall under EU MDR 2017/745. It is a conformity framework across the bloc, although it does not by itself prove that a particular clinic or treatment plan is right for you.
- EU-insured patients may have a framework we cannot offer. The cross-border healthcare directive can matter when a patient is insured in an eligible EU system. That is a genuine Hungarian advantage for that patient, but a visitor insured only in the US or Canada should not assume the same reimbursement route applies.
Before You Book
What a comparable written quote needs to show
A country name cannot tell you which implant brand, laboratory, final bridge or follow-up policy a quote includes. We are one clinic group in three locations. Before payment, our written plan names the implant brand (Straumann or Astra Tech) and the warranty terms and exclusions. After placement, the implant passport records the system and lot details for you to take home.

Getting there from New York, Toronto or Montreal
This is where the two destinations diverge most for our audience. As of 11 August 2026, Turkish Airlines sold nonstop Istanbul routes from New York, Toronto and Montreal, and its New York route page stated four daily flights. Budapest Airport's official 2026 summer schedule listed Toronto from 6 June to 24 October and did not list New York or Montreal. Outside the Toronto season, those three origin cities therefore require a connection to reach Budapest under the published schedule.
Hungary's immigration authority lists US and Canadian passport holders as visa-exempt for stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. The EU is planning to require ETIAS travel authorisation from visa-exempt visitors. ETIAS is not a visa; it is a pre-travel authorisation. As of 11 August 2026, it was not operating, the EU planned to start it in the last quarter of 2026, and the exact date had not been announced, so confirm before booking. See our own flights and entry requirements for Turkey.
One thing EU membership does not automatically do is give a visitor insured only in the US or Canada access to EU-insurer reimbursement. The EU's cross-border healthcare directive (2011/24/EU) sets the reimbursement route around the patient's eligible home insurance system. Some third-country nationals insured in an EU system can fall within its scope, so nationality alone is not the test.
Implant treatment is often staged across two trips, several months apart — here is what that timeline looks like. A revision may require another flight. For a patient starting in New York, Toronto or Montreal, Istanbul currently offers the more consistently direct itinerary; schedules can change, so check the dates for both trips before deciding.
Where we think Istanbul is the better call
- The flight, for our audience specifically. If you fly from New York, Toronto or Montreal, the currently published nonstop options to Istanbul make a staged treatment plan simpler than a seasonal or connecting route to Budapest.
- A price you can compare line by line. Our figures name the implant system and separate the fixture, crown or bridge, anaesthetic, temporary prosthesis and exclusions. A Hungarian quote may be lower or higher; the advantage here is knowing what our number means before comparing it.
- A continuing point of contact across both trips. Your patient coordinator remains the point of contact for coordination through planning, treatment and your return home, while clinical decisions stay with the dentist treating your case.
- A credential you can check yourself. All three of our clinics appear on the Turkish Ministry of Health's published list of authorised international health tourism facilities. For Hungary, ask for the provider's operating licence and check the treating dentist's registration through the official public route above.
Neither is the right call if…
Some situations are better solved at home, regardless of which country is cheaper or closer:
- You need treatment this week. Both destinations require planning a trip; neither is a same-day fix for an urgent problem.
- You cannot realistically make two trips several months apart, and would rather pay more to have a single dentist manage your case from start to finish, in person, at every step.
- Your case involves a medical condition that needs frequent hands-on monitoring during healing — something a remote coordinator, ours or a Hungarian clinic's, cannot substitute for.
- You are not willing to evaluate a clinic — implant brand, warranty, who is actually treating you — before you fly. That homework matters more than the country on the passport stamp.

What people ask when comparing Turkey with Hungary
Is Hungary cheaper than Turkey for dental implants?
There is no reliable countrywide answer. We did not find a primary-source Hungarian price series with consistent brands and inclusions as of 11 August 2026, so we do not publish a "market average." Our complete single-tooth restorations are 1,300–1,500 €, and Straumann All-on-4 is 7,000 € per arch. Compare those only with an itemised Hungarian quote that names the implant, abutment, crown or bridge, imaging and exclusions.
Do US and Canadian patients need a visa for Hungary?
No visa is currently required for a short stay — Hungary's immigration authority lists US and Canadian passport holders as visa-exempt for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. ETIAS is not a visa; it is a pre-travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors. As of 11 August 2026, ETIAS was not operating, the EU planned to start it in the last quarter of 2026, and the exact date had not been announced. Check the official ETIAS site before booking.
Does EU membership mean Hungary is safer for a US patient than Turkey?
Not by itself. Medical devices placed on the EU market generally fall under the EU Medical Device Regulation and its conformity rules, and Hungarian healthcare professionals have a public registration system. Those are meaningful checks. But EU membership does not automatically make one clinic safer than another, and a visiting US or Canadian patient should not assume access to EU-insurer reimbursement under the cross-border healthcare directive. Verify the clinic, treating dentist, device and complaint process.
Why does Istanbul make more sense than Budapest for a New York or Toronto patient?
Mainly the flight. As of 11 August 2026, Turkish Airlines sold nonstop routes to Istanbul from New York, Toronto and Montreal, including four daily New York flights. Budapest Airport's 2026 schedule listed Toronto only from 6 June to 24 October and did not list New York or Montreal. Always verify the exact dates before booking.
What happens if I need a repair after I fly home from Hungary or Turkey?
In practice, what an individual clinic promises to cover depends on its written warranty. Ours is published in full — lifetime on the implant fixture, 5 years on implant-supported prosthetics and crowns — with the exclusions on the same page. Before booking anywhere, ask for the warranty terms in writing and confirm who pays for the revision treatment, the hotel and the flight if something needs redoing.
Send your case — start with a written plan
What happens after you send this form:
- 01Send a few photos or a recent dental X-ray, and tell us what is bothering you.
- 02Start with our clinic-trained 24/7 AI assistant to prepare your case; then our team reviews the details and sends a written, itemised plan in English within one business day — brand, warranty and each cost line included.
- 03Your first reply is a plan to review. You decide how to continue after you have it in front of you; the price is confirmed after a CT scan and an examination once you arrive.
